What foods are in season?

May is full of spring garden favorites. When food shopping, buying seasonally is good for your health, our planet and your bank account. When you buy food that is in season, you are buying at a time when food is most abundant. It costs less to farmers which means less to distributors and trickles down ultimately cost less for you. If that isn't a huge plus maybe the taste of the food will be. Food that is in season tastes better! It is also healthier for you. In season food is more likely grown and harvested closer to where you live. This gives the food time to mature and be full of flavor rather than it being picked early to avoid spoiling during transportation from a farm further away. If you buy seasonal you also end up supporting local farmers. If you find the time to get to a local farmers market this month make sure you look out for:
